I'm a beer drinker and I want to know what does the program cost me?

It costs you nothing; it's absolutely free for you.

I want to know what establishments pour better beer, can I get email updates?

You can sign up for betterbeer.com weekly updates of certified establishments by entering your email on the top right hand corner of any page on this website.

Why does the Better Beer program matter?

By our estimates, only 10-15% of bars will meet the criteria. Only half of establishments in Canada clean their lines.  Add in dirty glasses, warm beer, mouldy fridges, and improper glasswasher sanitizer levels and you get really bad beer.  We check all of this stuff for you. Trust us, when you have seen what we've seen, you'd want to know where to go to get a better pint.

How can I tell if an establishment is certified?

If they are certified they will always be listed on this website as certified under Certified Establishments.

What if an account fails their monthly audit?

The establishment will be given a few days to fix the issue. One of the betterbeer.com auditors will return to the establishment to re-audit to ensure they are in certifiable status. If the establishment passes their re-audit, they remain on the certified list which is posted on this website. If the establishment fails their re-audit, their name is removed from the certified list until their next audit, which will be the following calendar month.

Can an account have the sticker and all of your marketing material but not be certified?

Yes, but only for a short while. Establishments who are uncertified for two months in a row are removed from the program and all signs of the betterbeer.com program are removed.

When I walk into a bar, can I tell if they are a part of the program?

You will always see the betterbeer.com seal on the door. Occasionally you may see some of our marketing material (coasters, tent cards, pens,...) around the bar as well. Our logo may also be in the establishment's menu.

Why is your temperature criteria measured in degrees Fahrenheit instead of Celsius?

Fahrenheit is more accurate that Celsius. We measure temperature down to a tenth of a degree. In one degree Celsius there is 1.8 degrees Fahrenheit. So you could say that there are 18 tenths of a degree Fahrenheit inside one degree Celsius. When it comes to measuring your beer temperature, we want to be as accurate as possible.
